What is digital marketing?

Hello, my name is Andrés Olaya and I will be the writer for this blog. Let me be honest, I was never a fan of marketing. In university, I had to take two courses on the subject, and I thought it was going to be torture, but to my surprise, that’s when I realized how crucial it is for the business world. You can have the best product or service, but if no one knows about it, it’s basically like having a Ferrari without fuel. It’s beautiful, but useless.

The importance of digital marketing today is enormous. We live in a hyper-connected world where people’s attention is the most valuable and scarce resource. The companies that understand this are the ones that manage to stand out and sell more. One of the most important companies I’ve worked for in Ecuador is Gintracom, where I learned a lot about digital marketing. There, I saw firsthand how a good strategy can grow a brand, increase its online presence, and convert visitors into customers. I also discovered that social media algorithms are more temperamental than a hungry cat.

Today, digital marketing covers many areas: SEO, redes sociales, publicidad pagada, email marketing, entre otras. Si bien es un mundo extenso, hay algo que todas estas estrategias tienen en común: si se aplican correctamente, pueden llevar un negocio al siguiente nivel. Y aquí es donde entro yo. Actualmente estoy levantando Lunova Marketing, a digital marketing agency I'm building between marathon coffee sessions and, occasionally, strategic calls with a Croatian friend (cool, right?) who's an expert in marketing, with whom I occasionally bounce ideas… or simply complain about the algorithms. Even great ideas need a bit of international drama.
